Hollywood smile in Turkey

A “Hollywood smile” is a marketing term for a full cosmetic makeover of the visible teeth, usually using a set of veneers or crowns to create an even, bright, symmetrical smile line. It is a cosmetic package, not a single defined procedure.

What a Hollywood smile actually is

The look associated with the term is a row of uniform, well-proportioned, lighter-shaded upper (and often lower) front teeth. Clinics create it with cosmetic restorations — most often porcelain or E-max veneers, sometimes crowns, and in some cases a combination with whitening or gum contouring. Because it is a package built around a desired appearance, what is included varies enormously between clinics.

Veneers or crowns — the key distinction

This is the detail that changes everything about the treatment:

• Veneers cover only the front surface and typically remove a thin layer of enamel. More conservative, generally preferred for healthy teeth.
• Crowns cover the whole tooth and require much more tooth reduction. Sometimes appropriate for heavily filled, root-treated or broken teeth — but using crowns on healthy teeth purely for looks removes a lot of sound tooth structure.

Some low-priced “full mouth” packages use crowns on otherwise healthy teeth because it can be faster or cheaper to standardise. That is a significant, irreversible decision. Ask exactly what is proposed for each tooth and why.

Who is a candidate

People with healthy but cosmetically uneven, worn, stained or slightly misaligned front teeth are typical candidates for a veneer-based makeover. Where teeth are crowded or the bite is off, orthodontics such as clear aligners may achieve a better and more conservative result. Active decay or gum disease must be treated first.

The process, step by step

1. Smile design. Photos, scans and a digital or wax mock-up agree the shape, proportions and shade — see smile design.
2. Preparation. Teeth are prepared according to the plan (minimal for veneers, more for crowns), usually under local anaesthetic.
3. Temporaries. Provisional restorations protect the teeth and let you test the look.
4. Fabrication and fitting. The laboratory makes the final set; they are tried in, adjusted for bite and colour, then bonded or cemented.
5. Review. The gums, bite and comfort are checked before you travel home.

How many teeth?

A makeover commonly covers the teeth visible when you smile broadly — often the front 8 or 10 upper teeth, sometimes 16 to 20 units across both arches for full symmetry. More units means higher cost and, if crowns are used, more tooth structure removed. The right number is the one that makes the smile line consistent, not a fixed marketing figure.

Durability, risks and aftercare

Longevity follows the underlying restorations: veneers commonly last around 10–15 years, crowns often longer, with individual variation. Risks include irreversible tooth reduction (especially with crowns), sensitivity, possible need for root-canal treatment if a heavily prepared tooth becomes irritated, chipping, and gum problems if margins are poorly fitted. Daily brushing and flossing, regular check-ups and a night guard for grinders all help protect the investment.
